Soil liquefaction

A

Occurs in areas where the ground consists of loose sediment (sand, silt or gravel) that is also waterlogged. Intense ground shaking compacts the loose sediment together (KEY TERM), forcing water between the sediment out and upwards

Ground temporarlirly lose normal strength and behave like a liquid
- Causes buildings to sink, tilt and often collapse
