Tectonics Flashcards
What are tectonic plates?
Floating on the semi-molten layer of rock on the magma.
Name 4 tectonic plates

South American plate
African plate
Pacific plate
What is a Constructive plate boundary?
When 2 tectonic plates are moving apart from one another; the gape causes magma to rise and cool.
What is a Destructive plate boundary?
When 2 plates move towards each other, one sinks below the other one
What is a Conservative plate boundary?
When 2 plates are moving side by side, on different directions or the same directions at different speeds
Why do some places suffer from earth quakes more than others?
Some countries are more developed than others so they have more money. Their bulidings may be stronger or mor earthquake protected.
In the event of an earthquake people may be prepared better
What are the Earths structural layers?
Inner core
Outer core
Mantle
Crust

What did the Japan earthquake cause?
A Tsunami of 39 meters high, travelling up to 6km
