Tectonic Plates Flashcards
What are convection currents?
The way the magma flows.
What are the four different types of plate boundaries?
Conservative, Constructive, Subduction Destructive & Collision Destructive
How does a Volcano form?
A Volcano forms when a tectonic plate sinks into the mantle. Some of the rock melts and becomes magma, meaning the magma gets through the cracks in the surface and the lava builds up layer upon layer to form a Volcano.
How does an earthquake occur?
1) Plates rub against each other
2) When a plate gets stuck it builds up pressure
3) One plate ‘jerks’ forward and the pressure is released causing an earthquake.
How is a earthquake recorded?
Using a seismic graph
How can earthquake danger be reduced?
Predict, protect & prepare for a future earthquke
How do plates move?
The movement of tectonic plates is caused by convection currents in the mantle.
