Q

Is tech modernisation continuous?

A

Q

Why are we doing Technology Modernisation?

A

Achieve strategic ambitions while remediating risks stemming from old complex technology (the old tech has potential to cause significant financial and regulatory risk).

Q

How are TMS scores assigned?

A
  • TMS targets set each financial year based on endorsed Domain Roadmaps and are stated in Domain scorecards.
  • For each Domain, a TMS score is assigned.
  • A reduction target is calculated, based on modernisation efforts of each Domain, as shown in the Domain Roadmaps.
  • TMS is calculated by applying a score to all Domain owned technology reflecting clear risk and complexity criteria (aligned to tech stragegy).

Q

What are the 3 dimensions of TMS scores?

A
  1. Technology Risk (inc lifecycle and events).
  2. Business Criticality (3C Framework)
  3. Execution Difficulty (technical debt i.e., tracking hollow out and relative cost/effort to decommission).

Q

How are Domain Roadmaps developed?

A

From the totality of the work to be completed, then elaborated in increasing detail at the 10+, 3 year, and 1 year commitments.

Targets are set annually.

  • 10+ yrs show the totality of modernisation.
  • 3 yrs provides detailed execution pathway for 3yrs.
  • 1yr shows apps to be decommissioned within the next year.

Q

How are each Domain’s applications assessed?

A

Based on TMS, which provides a breakdown of applications by technology risk and business criticality.

Domains use this to inform Roadmap commitments and prioritise investments.

Q

How is TMS tracked?

A

Clarity and SNAB allow linking of Endorsed Roadmap items to the work delivering the outcome.

Delivery progress and insights are provided through a SSoT TMS Delivery Dashboard and overseen by a TMS Nominee who is responsible to coordinate population and maintenance of the Deliverable to Work Association.

Q

What are the four key design decisions approved by the Board to embed technology currency risk management into NAB’s operating model?

A
  1. Measures reported to CEO, with TMS providing targets and baseline risk score.
  2. Domain Tech roadmaps developed for all domains, allowing TCM progress to be tracked at asset level.
  3. TCM progress monitoring included in governance and Domain Owner, CIO and ELT scorecards.
  4. A ‘Core Banking Modernisation’ Domain will be established to decommission the most complex assets over a multi-year period.
