A

One issue of change management is technological development. Technological development is the development, invention or implementation of new technology in an LSO. This can include automation (robotics) or digital products (web design, online apps) which can partially or fully replace humans in some part of their jobs.

Consumers expect that a business will continue to adopt modern technology and make it easy for consumers to purchase using technology. One example of how technological development has affected Australia Post. The rise of emails as a prominent form of communication had diminished the need for letters which was a large part of Australia Post. Australia post had to adapt and implement technology of their own to keep up with the wants of customers. They implemented the my post system to allow customers to have electronic control over their letter location and delivery preferences. They also implemented the securepay system which is an online purchasing service that makes it easier to shop online.

This meant that there was a loss of jobs for many postmen and women as Australia post changed their focus to technology.

Q

Describe one appropriate management style and one appropriate management skill a
Human Resource Manager should use when dealing with employee relations.

A

An appropriate management style that should be used by managers when dealing with employee relations is the consultative style. This style has two way communication as the manager consults with employees and listens to their feedback before making any decisions. The style still has centralised decision making as the manager still makes the decision independently. This style is appropriate as employee relations need to satisfy both parties to be effective to ensure that the employee is motivated enough to work productively. Managers should consult with employees and find out what conditions will satisfy them and keep morale high enough so that they work productively. Management then need to make a decision that ensures those employees are satisfied and working productively.

An appropriate skill is negotiation. Negotiation is when two parties enter into discussions to produce an agreement on a course of action or resolve a dispute. The outcome should be satisfying to both parties. It is effective in employee relations as it ensures that both parties have a say in the conditions of employment and that they are both satisfied with the conditions. This ensures that the business is product as employees are getting conditions which satisfy them and keep morale high which means they can work productively being free from stress.
