Technology Flashcards
Name 5 different types of technology in WW1
Artillery, Poison gas, tanks, machine guns, aircraft
What was Artillery?
It was developed to destroy enemy positions and defences so they could be captured and to destroy enemy guns
Why was Artillery important?
It caused the most casualties and destroyed enemy guns. It was the key weapon in WW1
What was poison gas
Germans released chlorine gas attacks. It was created by scientists and it was a lethal gas which blinds, burns and kills victims
Why was poison gas important?
It killed people just from the smell
What are tanks?
It was first rejected for being impractical. It was then made to travel at walking pace. They were massive and shot large artillery shells at enemies. Most broke down before arriving in Germany
Why were tanks important
Nothing could stop it for the first years of the war. But sooner people found it’s weakness’
What were machine guns
They were large heavy and mainly defensive weapons that were fast firing guns that got lighter over time and were good at capturing trenches
Why were machine guns important
It killed enemies within minutes of using, wasn’t close range but very good defensive positioning and was a good weapon by the end of the war
What was aircraft?
It was used for scouting bombs, from the sky. It was very unreliable and dangerous causing many deaths
