Effleurage

A

Done on any area of the body
Used to warm up tissues and promotes blood movement
Always move towards the heart, applying light pressure at first, and deeper pressure when using it to flush out any Edema or finish treatment.

Frictions

A

Done to any tendons or ligaments which are causing issues
Contraindicated during pregnancy and any issue causing joint laxity.
Find the ligament or tendon and place thumb in direction of the fibres
Without moving the thumb over the skin, and apply pressure moving back and forth over the tendon or ligament.
Perform for 2 minute increments and in between flush out area, until 3 reps have been done.
Stretch out area and then apply cold to the area for minimum of 5 mins.

Skin rolling

A

Facial technique
Used to help assess skin and remove any fatty deposits from between the skin and muscle
Grasping a chunk of skin between first 2 fingers and thumbs and roll either superiorly or cross body slowly.
When an area of entrapments has been found linger on the area to hep break up any fatty tissues

Kneeding

A

Done as a deeper technique to work on muscles not affected by superficial techniques.
Can be very specific like fingertip kneeding, or general like palmar kneeding.
Working within clients comfort level, apply pressure to the area being worked on, assessing muscle density and looking for any taught bands.

A

Pincement - tissues are gently plucked between thumb and fingertips
Tapping - tissues are tapped with finger tips
