An Octave
the distance between two of the exact same notes on the piano could be an octave lower or higher
What is the pattern for all major scales
W= Whole step, H= Half step

How do you construct a major scale?
By using the major scale pattern
How do you construct a Minor scale?
With the sixth note of any major scale, then apply the minor scale pattern
How do you know what scale to play
Because when you play a scale you always start on the note that is the name of the scale
What are relative major and minor scales?
They are scales that share the same key signatures (Enharmonically equivalent) meaning that they share the same note but arranged in a different order
What is a harmonic minor scale?*
it’s when you take the seventh note of a natural minor scale and make it a half step higher (the seventh note that is raised is called the leading tone)
What is a leading tone
a note or a pitch that leads to a semitone higher or lower (It normally refers to the seventh note)
Chromatic scale
it is composed of all half steps
What are triads?
A triad is a three-note chord that skips between each note
What is the root of a triad?
The root is the first note of the triad ( the bottom note)
What is the third of a triad?
The third is the middle note of the triad
What is the fifth of a triad
The fifth is the top note of the triad
How many inversions are there in a triad?
there are two inversions, and it is when you are still playing the same notes, but just in a different order
