TECH EXAM Flashcards
Attack engine utilizing own hydrant and intake relief valve fails.
Switch to booster tank operation
Shut down hydrant
Cap relief valve
Resume normal operation
Attack engine utilizing water supplied by the source engine and relief valve fails.
Switch back to booster tank operation
Close the intake valve
Cap the relief valve
Resume normal supplied operation
You’re in the role of the source engine supplying the attack engine, relief valve fails.
Notify attack engine the pressure will be reduced momentarily
Throttle down
Close discharge to the supplied line to inlet side of humat.
Close butterfly valve
Cap relief valve
Open butterfly valve
Resume normal source engine operations
List of appliances to cap relief valve
2.5” blind cap
2.5” gate valve
2.5” gated wye
2.5” to 1.5” reducer to a 1.5” cut off
2.5” cut off
Discharge pressure drops very quickly (air coming into pump)
-Limit RPM increase to +300 not to exceed 1900 RPM
-Psi does not increase after 3-7 seconds engine speed reduced by 150 rpm.
-This rpm held as long as above 45 psi
- Air stops coming in normal operations resume
Discharge PSI starts dropping at selected pressure.
-Initially RPM will increase to try and maintain PSI
-if this increase doesn’t help recognized as “RUNNING AWAY FROM WATER CONDITION”
-Holds the engine at steady RPM (same rpm when condition first recognized)
- when condition stabilizes operator may have to take action to reset pressure setting.
Discharge PSI drops below 30-45 PSI but stays above 15 PSI
-PSG will go into LOW WATER CYCLE
-Sets engine RPM to 1100
-if pressure does not go above 30-45 psi in approx 7 SECONDS psg will set engine to IDLE.
-When PSI rises above 30-45 psi PSG resumes normal operation.
Discharge pressure drops below 15 PSI
-Engine will be set to IDLE
-PSI rises above 15 PSI the PSG will resume low water cycle
-EXCEPT Fire Commander 1
FRC -INCONTROL,
FRC-Detroit Diesel Fire Commander 2, FRC-Total Control.
