Q

IDENTIFY - How does coach Tboogy define a Hybrid team composition?

A

Any composition that isn’t comprised primarily of characters that would make up one of the other comps.

Hybrid Comp doesn’t really have a strength as compared to the others. While all the other comps have strengths, hybrid puts its focus on the team’s individual players using their characters well.

Though Hybrid teams typically lose out on the strategy and team strengths that the other compositions are better at. A Hybrid team will usually play out with more of a death match style.

Q

REACT - Which of the following is most effective against Dive comp and why?

Dive

Brawl
Hybrid

A

All things being equal, Brawl is a decent counter to Dive comp. This is NOT considered a HARD COUNTER.

Q

REACT - Which of the following is most effective against Hybrid comp and why?

Dive
Spam
Brawl
Hybrid

A

Any of the other comps are usually stronger than a Hybrid comp in their specific strengths. So a brawl comp on a brawl map is inherently stronger than a hybrid as an example.

Q

PLAN - Which maps are best used for Dive comp and why?

A

Dive works best on Maps with Highgrounds
Watchpoint Gibralter and Numbani are good dive map examples. Dive members can come and go as they please from a highground. And it allows them to engage without abilities.

Q

PLAN - Which maps are best used for Spam comp and why?

A

Wide open maps with high ground give far distance Spam characters excellent positions to pummel teams with.

One example is Junkertown where it is advantageous to run spam comp on attack or defense, especially in the first section.

Brawl would not typically run well on junkertown.

Q

PLAN - Which maps are best used for Brawl comp and why?

A

Brawl is best used in close quarters maps.

One example is Li Jung Tower. It’s very condensed, indoors, and Brawl works better than Dive and Spam here because the other two don’t work well in close quarters where Brawl comp has the advantage.

Kings Row is probably the best example for a close ranged brawl map

Q

PLAN - Which maps are best used for Hybrid compositions and why?

A

Control would be best map for Hybrid but still not preferable as others. But control is most suited for solo play than team play so if you had to play hybrid you would play control.

There are also a ton of other Hybrid comps that are map dependent but are too complicated to sum up.

Q

REACT - What if the enemy team has more brawl supportive characters than we do on a brawl map?

A

In that situation, team comp dictates play style. If your team doesn’t have the healing required to pursue brawl play style as effectively as the enemy team’s does, then we have to play more passively and safer in comparison to the enemy team, until we get more picks and can turn the fight advantageous to our team.

Q

PLAN - What’s the most efficient composition across most team fights if you don’t know the enemy team’s composition - One of the main comps or hybrid?

A

One of the main team comps:

Dive
Spam
Brawl

An exception would be if your team is a bunch of one tricks that can’t flex effectively with different characters. If they all can play their characters really well, than Hybrid might be more successful with that team.

Q

PLAN - Let’s say your team is really good with a Brawl and terrible with a Dive. You join a map that would benefit from using a Dive composition. What’s your BEST course of action? Should you:
A. Attempt a Dive comp hoping the enemy isn’t aware of your shortcomings and hope your team gets lucky?
B. Practice Dive in Competitive Mode, because your team’s deaths subtracting 20 seconds from your participation time in the fights mean nothing to you.
C. Stick with what you do well because at least you’re going to have a fighting chance vs a known bad outcome.
D. Run Brawl, but stay extremely passive using the spawn for natural cover.

A

Read all options so you’re aware:
If you selected A:
If you already know your team is bad at Dive, then now is not the time to select Dive if the map doesn’t punish your ability to run Brawl. A. Is not the best course of action.

If you selected B:
If you already know your team is bad at Dive, then now is not the time to select Dive if the map doesn’t punish your ability to run Brawl. Practice Dive comps in PUGs, Scrims, and/or QP to gain more experience. Then after you have most of the kinks worked out, start practicing it in Competitive, but not as the first option since you already know your team is green and operating terribly with a Dive comp.
B. Is not the best course of action.

If you selected C:
Sticking with your tried and true, best operating composition is great as long as the map and enemy team doesn’t counter you effectively. Good news is you already know a shortcoming of your team. Practice Dive comps in PUGs, Scrims, and/or QP to gain more experience.
C. Is the best option.

If you selected D:
You’re funny, but seriously: Sticking with your tried and true, best operating composition is great as long as the map and enemy team doesn’t counter you effectively. Using natural cover is also a very valuable strategy for any composition, especially Brawl. Playing somewhat passive is valuable at times when your team is down a player during a fight for example, but playing so passively that you aren’t leaving spawn is not helping your team’s goal(s) of killing the enemy team / taking the objective.

Q

REACT - counter dive swaps, can be used when your team is running Spam comp. What would your team need to do if you were effectively getting counted but wanted to stay Spam?

A

Counter dive swap so that some of your characters have stun capabilities to stun the enemies and focus them as they dive your team.
