TD 85 Flashcards
State standards for TASK 2067: Select Landing Zone - Pickup Zone - Holding Area
- Perform map/photo/visual recon
- Determine LZ/PZ suitable for mission
- Provide accurate/detailed info to organic/support unit
- Confirm suitability of a holding area
Tactical considerations for for executing fly-by reconnaissance:
Mission, Security, Location
Determine if the shape/size of the LZ/PZ/HA are suitable for the formation to be flown.
What are the fly-by recon technical considerations?
Obstacles/hazards in the landing area/vicinity. Obstacles that can’t be eliminated must be plotted.
What are the fly-by recon meteorological considerations?
Ceiling/visibility
Density Altitude
Winds
What items will be considered when selecting a Holding Area (HA)?
- Obstacles within HA
- Cover/Concealment
- Low terrain
- Maneuvers/approach
- Departure/security
What are the confined area considerations for conducting LZ/PZ/HA reconnaissance?
Determine suitable ATIS/path for go-around. Determine number of ACFT that area can accommodate at 1 time
For pickup zone selection size, what are the minimum recommended landing point separations?
CH-47: 80 meters
UH-60/AH-64: 50 meters
Pick up zone considerations:
Blowing dust/snow, increase separation between aircraft by: ______
Land upslope for _______
Land side slope for _______
- 50 1/2
- 0-6 degree slope
- 7-15 degree slope
