Q

Discuss the purpose, functions, and capabilities of the Multifunction Slew Controller.

A

The position of the cursor on the digital map is controlled by slew controllers.

The MFSC includes a single multi-axis transducer (slew button) and three addi- tional selection switches (Select, Menu, and Mode). The slew button provides the ability to slew the cursor on the display and the three switches allow for cursor related selection functions (symbology selection, menu selection, etc.). The slew button provides separate x (right/left) and y (up/down) input signals to the MFD, which drive the cur- sor position on the display. Cursor motion varies with cur- sor operating mode.

Q

During single engine ground operation with the collective full down NP/NR may indicate ___1__, even when the engine speed trim is increased to the maximum setting. This is a ____2_____ characteristic, and may be observed more frequently during hot weather. Raising the collective slightly (approximately 1⁄2 inch) will bring the NP/NR to 100%.

A
  1. 99%

2. Normal

Q

Define Dynamic Rollover and the conditions required for it to occur?

A

A helicopters susceptibility to a lateral-rolling tendency.
Dynamic rollover can occur on level ground as well as during a slope or crosswind landing and takeoff.
Three conditions are required for dynamic rollover—pivot point, rolling motion, and exceed critical angle.

Q

What is the Note associated with Slope Landing Limitations?

A

Because of the flat profile of the main transmission and forward location of both transmission oil pumps, transmission oil pressure will drop during nose-up slope operations. At slope angle of 10°, an indicated oil pressure of 30 to 35 psi is normal; and at a 15° slope angle, a pressure in the range of 10 to 15 psi is normal due to pitching of the helicopter.

Q

According to chapter 8 of TM 1-1520-280-10, when should a roll-on landing be used?

A

Roll-on landing. A roll-on landing may be used when the helicopter will not sustain a hover; to avoid hovering in snow or dust; if tail rotor control is lost; or when operating with one heavy external tank.
