TB Flashcards
1
Q
What is the role of Alveolar Macrophages in TB infections?
A
Mtb is transmitted through aerols, in the lungs the mycobacteria is taken up by macrophages and survives there by preventing the fusion of phagocytoes and lysosomes
2
Q
How are granulomas formed?
A
Receptors on the macrophage membrane interact with sugar residues on the bacterial surface (mannose-receptors) or complement receptors. The proliferation of mycobacteria attracts more phagosomes and T cells which fuse to great giant cells. This forms thick cell layers around the infection resulting in leisures
