Q

paragraph one

A

Summer. June 16th. 12:30 pm. Outside the shopping mall, it was a lucent and blazing day with the temperature at a staggering 34 degrees and more than half the city in town shopping. Some were shopping, some were holding shopping bags, and some looking for a place to park. “I shouldn’t have taken this Uber shift,” I think to myself. “I am sweating like an ice cream in the sun.”

paragraph 2

A

I saw a suspicious-looking, dark-skinned, bald man who seemed to be in his mid-30s, wearing all black and walking with a high ego towards the car.
“Are you on the clock?” he murmured.
“Yeah, get in.” I pointed to the back seat and pushed down the hand brake in my red BMW m5 competition. “Where to?”

carry on of paragraph 2

He reached into his pocket and handed me a sheet of paper with coordinates. There was no address, only coordinates. I thought it was strange and I wondered how in the world am I supposed to put This in a satnav. After a while of pressing buttons, I somehow managed to put them into the sat nav. The location was the countryside around 4.4 miles from here.

So I took off to the ‘desired destination.’ There was a huge traffic jam on the highway and the noise of car horns and car tyres squealing filled my ears. It was broken by a default iPhone 8 ringtone in the man’s pocket.
He answered and I heard the guy on the phone say, “How long is it taking you? I told you to be here an hour ago!”
“I know, but the whole town was overcrowded with people with shopping bags. I am stuck in traffic.” The passenger did say something else, but I didn’t pay much attention to that.

At last, we set off to the coordinates. The buildings turned into trees as we zoomed towards the destination. While we were on the highway, I noticed from my centre mirror that the man kept looking at his watch every 30 seconds. It seemed kind of odd. The summer clouds shrunk beneath the dark, grey rain clouds that were fast approaching.

A 30-minute trip turned into a 55-minute trip and we finally reached the destination in the middle of the countryside. There were no trees in sight, just a long snaking road and an eerie house with a barn.

After we both got out of the car, I went around the back of the car to give the man his stuff from the trunk. From the corner of my eye, I saw another man in the window of the rundown house. I didn’t want to wait around any longer so I left as soon as possible towards the city centre.

On the way back, I decided to put some music on to clear my head and I accidently pressed the wrong button. The news crackled to life: “A dark-skinned, bald man who was accused of gang activities and murder has just been spotted getting into the back of a Red BMW m5 competition. If you see this man, please alert the authorities immediately!” I sighed. Just when I thought this trip couldn’t get any worse.
