Task A: Human Behavior & Communication Flashcards
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
1) Physiological (Food, Shelter, physical needs)
2) Safety (Feel safe and secure in the airplane, performing stalls, etc.)
3) Belonging (The student needs to feel like they belong in flight training. They are where they need to be)
4) Self-Esteem (The student needs to feel good about themselves, and where they are at in their learning)
5) Self-Actualization (Born to Do)
Defense Mechanisms (ReD, CoPRR, FaD)
Repression - When a person pushes uncomfortable thoughts to inaccessible places in the mind, to be dealt with at another time.
Defense Mechanisms (ReD, CoPRR, FaD)
Denial - When a person refuses to accept a reality, because it is too threatening. It could be a refusal of what has happened, what will happen, or what is happening currently.
Defense Mechanisms (ReD, CoPRR, FaD)
Compensation - When a person will try and downplay a failure, by emphasizing something else they did that was good.
Defense Mechanisms (ReD, CoPRR, FaD)
Projection - This is when a person places the blame for their own shortcomings onto someone else. (The DPE failed me…)
Defense Mechanisms (ReD, CoPRR, FaD)
Rationalization - This is when the subconscious justifies a mistake. The student may claim there wasn’t enough time to learn the required material.
Defense Mechanisms (ReD, CoPRR, FaD)
Reaction Formation - This is when a person fakes a belief that is the opposite of what they really believe. Such as pretending a lesson that went poorly doesn’t bother them, when it really does.
Defense Mechanisms (ReD, CoPRR, FaD)
Fantasy - This is when a student spends their time daydreaming about how things could be, instead of focusing on how they are currently.
Defense Mechanisms (ReD, CoPRR, FaD)
Displacement - This is when a person is angry about one area of their life, but takes out that frustration in another area. A student who had a bad flight lesson, may take out that frustration at home! OR Vice-Versa
