Yom Kippur is the most solemn of Jewish religious holidays, when Jews seek to expiate their sins and achieve reconciliation with God. It concludes the “10 days of repentance”
What is the prayer said at penance?
Act of contrition
What is Rosh Hashanah
a celebration of the creation of the world and marks making a fresh start. It is a holy day on which Jewish people are not expected to work. Instead it is a time for them to reflect on the past year and to ask for forgiveness for anything wrong they feel they have done.
Define Absolution
formal release from guilt, obligation, or punishment.
Define Viaticum
the Eucharist as given to a person near or in danger of death.
How does human actions cause suffering in the world?
Humans commit sins and these sins can cause suffering to others and the sinner themself. When these sins are done to hurt others, it causes suffering.
What are the two types of sin?
Mortal and Venial sins
What are the differences between the two types of sin?
Mortal sins are grave offenses that kill our relationship with God and, consequently, cause a loss of sanctifying grace. Anyone dying in a state of mortal sin would suffer eternal separation from God in Hell. Venial sins are lesser offenses that injure but do not destroy one’s relationship with God.
What are the three requirements for sin?
It must be of a grave matter;
It must be committed with full knowledge that it is a mortal sin;
It must be committed with full consent.
What are lesser sins?
Venial sins
Who resembles who in the parable of the prodigal son?
God is the father in the prodigal son, he forgives no matter what and loves everyone unconditionally. The righteous, or the followers relates to the older brother and the sinner is the younger brother.
What is a Sacrament?
A visible sign of an invisible reality that makes effective the grace it signifies
What are the 3 rites of reconciliation?
1st rite: 1 to 1 reconciliation
2nd rite: as a group but private, individual confessions
3rd right: only in emergency situations, when no individual confessions are available a big group confession at once.
