Transverse plane
Divides the body into superior and inferior sections. It is a division that is horizontal across the body.
Sagittal plane
Divides the body into left and right half’s.
Frontal plane
Divides the body into posterior (back) and anterior (front).
Femur
Longest and strongest bone in the body.
Allows you to stand and move.
Located above your knee.
Tibia
Second largest bone in the body.
Part of knees and ankle joins.
Located below your knees.
Fibula
Does not carry significant weight.
Provides stability to the ankle.
Located under your knee next time the tibia.
Humerus
Allows movement of hand and elbow.
Most commonly broken.
Located above your elbow.
Radis
Apart of your elbow and wrist.
Articulates with ulna.
Located below your elbow and is the lateral side of forearm, elbow to thumb.
Ulna
Forms part of elbow joint.
Located below your elbow from pinky to elbow.
Pelvis
Creates apart of hip joint with femurs.
Spine is attached.
Located between abdomen and thighs.
Vertebrae
Protects spinal cord.
33 individual bones.
Located in the back middle of your body.
Axel skeleton
Consists of your skull, ear, ribcage, neck and back.
Think of the middle of your body.
Function of bones
To protect vital organs, gives support, provides frame work, stores essential minerals and produces red blood cells.
Classification of bones
Long, short, flat, irregular and sesemoid bones.
Movement terms
Flexion, extension, hyperextension, abduction, adduction and circumduction.
