What angle do the Taser Cartridges fire at?
3.5 degree angle
What is the spread of the Taser Cartridges?
30cm spread for every 3.3 metres of travel
What are the primary/preferred target zones for the Taser?
Back/rear of the body ensuring that we split the probe on the belt line.
What are the secondary target zones for the Taser?
The front of the body placing one probe above and below. Making sure we avoid the face, neck and gentiles.
What is the Criteria to draw and cover with CEW
When you are likely to be justified in using it. Taser must be immediately armed upon removal from the
holster
When should a Taser not be used? (No exceptions)
- When near explosive materials, flammable liquids, or gasses
- On persons where there is a likelihood of significant secondary injuries
- Against passive non-compliant subjects who are exhibiting non-threatening behaviour.
- To rouse an unconscious, impaired or intoxicated subject
- To target known pre-existing injury
- For crowd dispersal
When should a Taser not be used? (Unless in exceptional circumstances)
- Against a subject who is handcuffed
- Against a female who may be pregnant
- On an elderly or disabled subject
- On a small child or subject
- Against the driver of a vehicle or the operator of machinery
- Drive Stun for pain compliance
How long is a Taser discharge cycle?
5 seconds
When must a police officer reconsider the effectiveness of Taser?
After 3 cycles
Are officers allowed to do more than 3 cycles?
Yes but must be able to justify further
use of a Taser prior to each additional cycle.
After someone has been tased, who needs to be notified
- VKG
- Ambulance
- Supervisor
