Taping Flashcards
Preventing, treating, rehabilitating injuries
Taping
Adjunct to rehabilitation
Therapeutic Tape
2 Main functions of taping
1) Immediate first aid
2) Taping to avoid injury
When do you not apply tape?
Taping over any undiagnosed injury
Non-strechable; made of cotton with zinc oxide adhesive
Non-elastic
Stretch tape; white and tan; heavyweight and lighweight designs
Elastic Tape
How is heavyweight different from lightweight elastic tape?
Thickness
3 Types of tape
Non-elastic
Elastic
Cast
A bit more expensive; used in water-involved activities
Waterproof tape
Fiberglass fabric containing a polyuerthane resin.
Cast
Difference of rigid and semi-rigid
Rigid - total immobilization
Semi-rigid - minimal mobilization
How do you remove non-elastic and elastic tape?
1) Grasps the tape and pull it across the skin
2) Solvent
3) Taping scissors
4) Tape cutters
How do you remove semi-rigid cast and rigid cast?
1) taping scissors
2) cast saw, cast spreaders, scissors
The first strips of tape applied above and below the injury site
Anchors
Restrict unwanted sideways movement
Supports strips and stirrups
Restrict movement and add tensile strength to strategic areas
Reinforcing strips
Restrict range of motion
Check reins
Secure the cut end of stretch tape
Lock Strips
Give additional support to the subtalar and ankle joints
Heel locks
Taping technique for plantar fascitis and flat foot.
Arch Taping
Taping technique for the toes to immobilize/limit movement
Great Toe/Toes Taping
Taping technique to avoid plantarflexion and inversion
Closed Basket Weave Ankle Taping
Taping technique for prevention of over-stretching the Achilles
Achilles Tendon
Taping technique to restrict movement in the patella
Knee Taping
Taping technique to prevent elbow hyperextension
Elbow
Taping technique to protect and stabilize badly injured wrist
Wrist
Taping technique to provide support to musculature and joint
