Tanks definitions Flashcards
Level
The height of a liquid surface in reference to a zero point (zero reference point could be anywhere in the tank)
Ullage (outage)
Measurement from the surface of the product to the top of the tank,
Inage
the measurement from the bottom of the tank to the surface of the product
Direct measurement
Measures the process variable directly in terms of itself (the level)
Interface level
A plane where two materials meet: can be between two substances, a liquid and a slurry, or a liquid and foam.
Indirect Measurement
Measures another process variable (such as head pressure or weight) in order to infer level. Converts the weight into level
Meniscus
The curved upper surface of a column of substance. It can have a convex shape or a concave shape
Hydrostatic head pressure
The pressure exerted by a column height of liquid
Depth
A distance from the surface of a liquid that extends downward
Height
A distance from a zero reference point to the surface
