Buddhist sculptures and records show monks practicing Tang Soo Do

  • some in the Shoalin Temple in Hunan Province, China
  • Bul Dook Temple - story of 13 monks including monk Dal Ma and monk Mio Ryeon and a record requiring monks to be trained in Tang Soo Do
  • Not part of the Tang Soo Do Handbook but may shed light on the subject: Little is known about the actual relationship between Buddhism and Tang Soo Do but it is thought that the monks, who often provided service to the local towns (medical, legal, agriculture, education etc) faced highway bandits and Tang Soo Do became their way to defend themselves.
