Talking Media Flashcards
People buy more when they see themselves represented in advertisements
Personally, I believe that advertisements have a strong influence on people. They appeal to their emotions to encourage them to buy. Moreover, advertisements leave a mark on us like the Fido commercial with the animals
Anyone can become famous on YouTube or on other social media plateforms
I believe that anyone can become famous, it’s just a matter of showcasing yourself. Many influencers started from nothing and were poor at first, like Justin Bieber and Rihanna
I listen to media recommendations generated by algorithms more than to my friends’ suggestions.
Personally, I believe it’s more important to listen to the advice of a real person. Algorithms don’t have emotion and can’t see the full picture like our friends can
We shouldn’t watch old movies and TV shows if they portray harmful stereotypes
I completely agree. I believe it’s important not to spread these stereotypes, so we need to be carful about what we choose to encourage
I assume that someone who looks like me will share many of my opinions
I agree because I believe that if someone has the same values or culture, there is a greater chance that you will share the same opinion. For exemple, my sister and I look a lot a like and very often we share the same opinion.
Some stereotypes of marginalized communities can be useful
I don’t believe that a stereotype can be useful, all stereotypes can be useful, all stereotype are pointless. We should first learn to understand the person or group of people
