Why did the colonists get mad at the British for trying to tax tea?
There was taxation without representation. Taxed without permission from them.
What’s the Tea Act?
A 1773 law that let the British East India Company bypass tea merchants and sell directly to colonists.
What was the Boston Tea Party?
A 1773 protest in which colonists dressed as Indians to dump tea into the Boston Harbor.
What is Civil Disobedience?
The non-violent refusal to obey laws that one considers unjust.
What was the Quartering Act?
A law that allowed British soldiers to barge into homes and force those who lived there to feed them, have them well rested, etc.
What are the Intolerable Acts?
Britain’s response to the Boston Tea Party / a series of laws passed in 1774 to punish Boston for the Tea Party.
What was the first Intolerable Act?
Parliament shut down the port of Boston.
What was the second Intolerable Act?
Parliament forbade Massachusetts colonists from holding town meetings more than once a year without government permission (from a governer in other words).
What was the third Intolerable Act?
Parliament allowed customs offices and officials to be tried in British or Canadian courts instead of Massachusetts.
What was the fourth Intolerable Act?
Parliament passed the Quartering Act.
What was the Quebec Act?
A law that set up a government for Canada and protected the rights of French Catholics.

(1743-1826) One of the authors of the Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United States.
What was the First Continental Congress?
In 1774, a meeting of delegates from 12 colonies in Philidelphia.
What’s a militia?
An army of citizens who serve as soldiers during an emergency.
What is a traitor?
One who betrays their country.
