Tailor's Bunion Flashcards
Removing bump of bone mainly for elderly/sedentary patients. This is rarely curative
Exostectomy
Retraction of toe, last resort and typically chosen for patient with multiple issues such as OM
Arthroplasty
Transverse osteotomy of the metatarsal neck. Moving the metatarsal neck/head medially, fixation is difficult
Hohmann
Oblique osteotomy of the metatarsal neck angled distal lateral to proximal medial and sliding the head/neck medially
Reverse Wilson
V cut made from lateral to medial with apex in metatarsal head and shifting the head medially. This piece is mostly stable in the frontal and sagittal planes
Chevron
Distal closing wedge with apex proximal lateral. Technical difficulty and fixation difficulty are both increased because the when the wedge closes you have a transverse cut. Make this wedge more distally (away from cortical bone) for better bone growth
Mercado
Closing wedge like Mercado, however the wedge is in the met shaft. As you move proximally the patient is now NWB
Yancey
Basilar closing wedge. Transverse/oblique
