21
Q

how does a tai yang channel pathology move to a tai yang organ pathology

A

either via mistreatment or no treatment (allowing the superficial tai yang channel pathology to go further into the body)

22
Q

what determines if a tai yang channel pathology will go deeper to the tai yang organ level with no treatment?

A

it depends on a person’s constitution and the intensity of the pathogen.

23
Q

what are the possible patterns we can see when there is a tai yang organ pathology

A

water amassment
blood amassment
tai yang concurrent condition

24
Q

the small intestine’s job is to separate clear from turbid. what are examples of unsuccessful separation of clear and turbid substances?

A

burning, urgent and or turbid urination, and diarrhea

25
Q

one of the first signs we may see when a pathogen is going from tai yang channel to organ is…

A

issues with water metabolism ex: edema

26
Q

what formula would we use for water amassment due to tai yang organ pathology

A

Wu Ling San

27
Q

what are the ingredients in wu ling san

A
fu ling
zhu ling
ze xie
bai zhu
gui zhi
28
Q

according to line 71 in the SHL, why is dryness of the stomach discussed?

A

Dr.Pai believes this comes from the patient’s symptoms. The dryness here is a result of the SI not separating clear from turbid so the ability for the body to properly circulate water is decreased. It is not a result of yin deficiency. The indication of inhibited urination is also another sign that this is coming from a tai yang organ situation.

29
Q

is the following statement true: “if the exterior has not been resolved, one should not yet attack, but should first resolve the exterior.”

A

This is not true for every exterior/interior situation. We only follow this concept if the exterior condition is the primary problem.

30
Q

the following are indications for which formula: “when a greater yang disease is unresolved and heat binds in the bladder, the person is as if manic, and spontaneous blood descent (blood in the urine or stool) will bring recovery.”

A

tao he cheng qi tang

31
Q

what is the diagnosis for tao he cheng qi tang

A

tai yang blood amassment

32
Q

what are the ingredients of tao he cheng qi tang

A
tao ren
da huang
mang xiao
gan cao
gui zhi
33
Q

what formula can be found within tao he cheng qi tang

A

tiao wei cheng qi tang:

da huang, mang xiao, gan cao

34
Q

what leads us to understand that tao he cheng qi tang is a tai yang formula

A

the presence of gui zhi indicates that this is a tai yang formula

35
Q

when an exterior and interior pathogen are present, what are our three options for treatment?

A

address the exterior, address the interior, address both the interior and exterior

36
Q

which formula would we use for the following indications: “greater yang disease with a stretched stiff nape and back, absence of sweating and aversion to wind?”

A

Ge Gen Tang

37
Q

what are the ingredients in ge gen tang

A
ma huang
gui zhi
sheng jiang
ge gen
shao yao
da zao
38
Q

what formula has the same ingredients as ge gent tang but is indicated for when sweating is present

A

gui zhi jia ge gen tang

39
Q

of the ingredients in ge gen tang, which herb is most important for the symptom of stiff neck and back?

A

ma huang

40
Q

comparing ma huang tang to ge gen tang, which formula is stronger?

A

ma huang tang is stronger because it only contains xing ren on the right, and does not have a buffer like ge gen tang’s shao yao and da zao.

41
Q

which formula would we use for the following indications: “when in greater yang wind strike, the pulse is floating and tight, and ther eis heat effusion, aversion to cold, generalized pain, absence of sweating, and vexation and agitation.”

A

44
Q

what formula would we use for the following indications: “when in cold damage the exterior has not yet resolved and there is water qi below the heart, with dry retching, heat effusion and cough, and possible thirst or diarrhea, or dysphasia, or inhibited urination and lesser abdominal fullness or panting.
