Tai Yang Flashcards
Line 1
The typical manifestation of Tai Yang disease are a floating pulse, headache, ache and stiffness on the nape and aversion to cold
Line 2
In Tai Yang disease, where there is fever, sweating, aversion to wind and a moderate pulse, it is called zhong feng syndrome
Line 3
In Tai Yang Disease, whether fever presents or not, aversion to cold must occur. There is pain over the body, vomiting and a tight pulse at the yin and yang positions. This is called shang han syndrome.
Line 4
On the first day of suffering from cold damage, tai yang would be invaded. If the pulse is unchanged, it indicates that the disease has not changed. If a patient feels slight nausea or seems to have agitation and vexation, and the pulse becomes rapid and urgent, these symptoms indicate that the disease has changed.
Line 5
Neither yang ming syndrome nor shao yang syndrome is observed, though cold damage has been going on for two or three days. This indicates that there is no progress for tai yang disease
Line 6
In Tai Yang disease, if there is fever, thirst and absence of aversion to cold, it is called warm pathogen disease. If there is scorching hot on the body after promotion of sweating, this is called wind-warmth. The manifestations of wind-warmth are a floating pulse on the distal position and proximal position, spontaneous sweating, general heaviness, somnolence, stertorous breathing and difficulty speaking. If purging were used, there would be abnormal urination, staring eyes and fecal incontinence. If a fire method were used, the skin would turn to yellow in a mild scenario; in a severe scenario, there would be convulsion and periodic spasmodic jerking like epilepsy. If the fuming method was used, this would be another mistreatment. One mistreatment could still leave a few days for patients. Two mistreatments would speed up the death process for patients
Line 7
When a disease presents with fever and aversion to cold, it indicates that the disease occurs in yang; when a disease presents with aversion to cold but the absence of fever, it indicates that the disease takes place in yin. The disease that occurs in yang can resolve in seven days, while the disease that takes place in yin can resolve in six days, because seven isa yang number while six is a yin number.
Line 8
In tai yang disease, a headache has lasted for more than seven days and then the patient automatically recovers. This is because tai yang disease has gone through its first regular course. if it is about to go on for the second course, foot yang ming should be needled to stop this continuation, and then there will be recovery.
Line 9
The time when tai yang disease is about to resolve is from 9am to 3pm
Line 10
The patient who had zhong feng syndrome for a long time but does not feel refreshed, though the exterior condition has resolved, will completely recover in 12 days.
Line 11
If the patient has a high fever but a desire to put more clothes on, this indicates heat in the skin and cold in the bone marrow. If the patient feels very cold but has no desire for clothes, this indicates that there is cold in the skin and heat in the bone marrow.
Line 12
The pathology of zhong feng syndrome in tai yang disease is floating yang and weakness of yin. Floating yang produces a fever, weakness of yin makes spontaneous sweating. The patient has aversion to cold that makes them huddle up, aversion to wind as if their body is splashed with cold water, gentle fever as if their body is covered with feathers, sneezing or hoarse breathing in the nose, and dry retching. Cinnamon Twig Decoction should be prescribed.
During taking the formula, raw and cold food, sticky and greasy food, meat and food made of wheat, pungent vegetables, alcohol, dairy products and food with pungent odor should be avoided
Line 13
In tai yang disease, when there is headache, fever, sweating and aversion to wind, Gui Zhii tang should be be prescibed.
Line 14
Tai Yang disease presents with stiff nape and back, and there is sweating and aversion to wind instead of cold. Gui Zhi Tang should be prescribed.
Line 15
In Tai Yang disease, after being purged, the patient feels qi surging; one may use Gui Zhi Tang according to the methods mentioned previously. If qi surging is absent, gui ahi tang cannot be prescribed.
