TADS Flashcards
Which major subsystems make up the AH-64E Sighting systems?
Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight (MTADS)
Integrated Helmet And Display Sight System (IHADSS)
Fire Control Radar (FCR)
What is a sight?
A device used to guide or aim the weapon systems.
(TADS, HMD, and the FCR are sights)
Which sights can be selected from the pilots crew station?
FCR and HMD
How long does it take to complete a “FULL” SANUC?
14-30 Seconds.
Which sights can be selected from the CPG crew station?
FCR, TADS, and HMD
How long does it take to complete a “ONE TOUCH” SANUC?
1-2 Seconds, followed by a five minute adjustment period
The LHG sensor select switch allows the CPG to choose between which TADS sensors?
FLIR and DTV
What is the purpose of the SLAVE button on the RHG?
Slaves the CPG’s selected sight and/or enables cueing to the currently selected acquisition source
How many fields of view are available if the CPG is using the TADS as a sight with the FLIR as the selected sensor?
Four (Wide, Medium, Narrow, and Zoom)
How many fields of view are available if the CPG is using the TADS as a sight with the Day TV as the selected sensor?
Three (Wide, Narrow, and Zoom)
The CPG has the FCR as their selected sight. If the pilot takes the FCR from the CPG, what will the mission processor use as the CPG’s new LOS?
Depends on the NVS Mode Switch position.
Mode Switch OFF: TADS
Mode Switch NORM or FIXED: HMD
When the pilot sight selects TADS from the collective mission grip, what happens?
Nothing, the selection will be ignored
Which two switches/buttons allow the CPG to select “ENTER” on the TEDAC?
LHG Cursor Controller: Z-Axis function and/or the Cursor
Enter Button on RHG
What is the default sight for both crew members?
Helmet Mounted Display (HMD)
Where can the crew look to determine what sight has been selected?
Viewing the Sight Select Status field of the High Action Display, or the Weapon Page
In what capacity can the pilot use the TADS?
The pilot can use the TADS as a sensor. Either method will cause the TADS to become a Sensor for the pilot.
-NVS Select to TADS
-LINK the TADS to the FCR NTS.
When the aircraft is initially powered, what will be displayed in the Sight Select Status of the HAD?
?HMD
How often is it recommended that an internal boresight be conducted? Can it be completed in flight?
Twice every 2.5 hours. It can be completed in flight, as long as the TADS is ready and the FLIR is cooled
What must the CPG do upon completion of the DTV boresight in order to begin the FLIR boresight procedure?
Release the Laser trigger
What is the Copilot/Gunner (CPG) boresighting when performing an internal boresight?
The DTV Narrow and Zoom to the Laser and the FLIR Narrow and Zoom parallel to the DTV
Is the Ground Override switch required to be placed in the override position in order for the laser to fire during internal boresight procedure?
No
Which sensor is boresighted first during an internal boresight?
The DTV
When is a manual Servo Drift Null procedure required?
If the aim point does not remain within the narrow FOV of the DTV for 30 seconds or if a lesser amount of drift is desired
