Call 1st Engine for water supply layout, hydrant, and status of a FDC:
“Engine 1 (them) from Engine 2 (Me), water supply layout, hydrant, and status of FDC”
Look at Map, give layout
“Engine 1 (Them) from Engine 2 (Me), I will reverse lay from the scene to the hydrant at Stop and Go (street/intersections)”
Onscene Report:
“Battalion _____ from Engine (Me) on the scene with the water. I have a ___ floor/story (type of structure)(additional, ex. Enclosed stairwell, flat roof, attached garage on what side)(exposures if pertinent). I have smoke/fire showing side alpha 2nd floor/story window (whereabouts of fire/ smoke location).”
“Fairfax, I will establish “SUCH and SUCH Command” (incident street name) on side alpha of the structure. Strike a RIT Level I and a second alarm. Staging for those units will be at “such and such” (another location). The driver of the first arriving unit on the 2nd alarm will be the staging officer. “I will be taking a lap (you can also have another unit take a lap or give side Charlie report for you). If you have someone do it say “__(unit), give me a side Charlie report to include number of floors, location, and quadrant of fire.”
“LAP is COMPLETE”
Situation Report:
“All units from command, lap is complete, I have __ in front, __ in rear, with a Basement/crawlspace/walkout. I will be naming the floors __. (give additional Information of fire location including floor and quadrant.) Status of the occupants is ___ (Known/Unknown)”.
After situation report, Immediately go into tactics
IMMEDATIELY-
“E1 from Command , Location, CAN report, and status of the OCCUPANTS.”
Assign E1, E2, T1 (that order):
“Engine 1 from command (be prepared to reposition), stretch a line to (floor, quad, fire location.) Fire attack, Confine, extinguish, and Coordinate hydraulic vent after extinguishment.”
“Engine 1 I will be sending you engine 2 with a backup/second line. They will be working under your supervision.” (additional task)……. * Or they can be used as an line above assigned with the a special service or as a transitional attack from the exterior. Remember if they are sent to a top floor, check the attic for extension.
(Split crews of special service).
“Truck 1 from command, position on side alpha of the structure. Split your crew. Outside crew ladders to side alpha, bravo. Position the aerial for roof operations and scene lighting. Inside crew, force entry, conduct primary search of fire floor concentrating in the ________ (fire area) quadrant, coordinate vent, and check for extension. Control interior electrical utility.”
Tactics:
Assign E2, E4, T2, Rescue:
Give E3 second water location and assign E3, E4, T2, Rescue
“E3 from command, secondary water location at “such and such”. Upon arrival Line to above/below, attic/exposure”. Fire attack, confine, extinguish and coordinate vent.
“E4 from command, complete secondary water at “Such and Such”. You will be the RIT, Take Lap of structure, have an additional hoseline ready. Take proactive measures to ensure rapid entry and egress in the event of a mayday. Upon the arrival of the RIT 1, you will assume the role of RIT Group Supervisor. Develop a Rescue Action Plan and your Recon, Rescue, and Relief teams”
“Truck 2 from command, outside crew ladders to side charlie, delta. Inside crew conduct primary search of _____ floor, coordinate vent, and check for extension. Control exterior gas and electric utilities.”
“Rescue 1 from command, split your crew, Rescue 1 primary search of the floor above (or exposure) with a hoseline, control interior gas and electric utilities.) Rescue 1Xray, primary search below (or exposure) with a hoseline. Coordinate vent, check extension, effect rescues
Tactics
Assign Medic , Safety , and EMS Supervisor
“Medic from command, bring equipment and establish an aide station (give location). Monitor and be prepared to accept patient. Canvas the crowd for possible patients.”
Safety from command, lap of the structure, being atmospheric monitoring. Monitor the structure for stability and hazards. Mitigate and cord off any safety issues.
EMS____ from command, you will be the EMS group supervisor, you will be assigned to an alternate channel. Establish a landing zone for helo, contact RHCC for additional patients
DO YOUR CHECK BOXES: Power, Water, Police, Red Cross, Rehab, Light and Air
*Pay attention to the scene, if you see a change in smoke or fire, say, “ All units from command, I note a change in fire and smoke conditions, Engine_____(whoever is on the fire floor), status of fire attack.” “Copy, all units from command we have a knock on the fire.” These are additional points.
*You may have to assign your special services earlier than I have on the here based on needs.
