What are the types of Attacks?

A

Hasty:

  • Trade prep time for speed to exploit opportunity
  • Take advantage of audacity, surprise, and speed
  • Simplicity in SOM / habitual relationship, doctrine

Deliberate:

  • Utilized when the enemy cannot be defeated with a hasty attack or there is no readily apparent advantage that must be rapidly exploited
  • Characterized by leader’s recon

What does a leaders recon seek to do?

A
  • Push next to tx ft to gain eyes on the enemy for two reasons:
    1. Confirm his orientation and disposition
    2. Confirm or correct your SOM

Rule of thumb is stay within eyes shot of squad

A

AA- The order is received or briefed, rehearsal are conducted, and logistics are drawn.
ATK POS- Last covered and concealed position before the line of departure
LOD - Is used to coordinate subordinate units actions across an operation.
ASLT - The last covered and concealed position before the objective

  • Wedge: provides all around security, diffcult to control, contact with enemy is likely and probable
  • On line: max fire power to the front, only done when enemy position is known.
