Tactical Planning Process Flashcards
What is EMLCOA composed of?
-En Mission: give a tactical task
-Current Actions:
> When was the last time I saw them?
> When was the last time we had eyes on the en pos?
> Since then, now what can their position look like?
> What is the vegetation on position? Do they have cover?
> Which direction are there weapons oriented?
> What is their security posture?
-Actions on Contact - SOM > How the EN plan on beating us > What are their engagement criteria ? > What is their target precedence? > What are their rates of fire? > When are they going to disengage from you?
What is a CG?
- What cant they live without to accomplish their mission
- Key strength
- Surface
What is a CV?
- Weakness of CG
- Gap
What are the elements of a SOM?
DDFTC
- Distribution of Forces
- Direction of attack
- Form of Maneuver (Type of attack)
- Tactical Control Measures (TCMs)
- Consolidation
What is Distribution of forces?
M/E = "The focal point upon which converges the combat power of the force." S/E = Where combat power is economized
What is Direction of Attack?
Cardinal Direction from the LD to the Obj
What are the types of Attacks?
Hasty:
- Trade prep time for speed to exploit opportunity
- Take advantage of audacity, surprise, and speed
- Simplicity in SOM / habitual relationship, doctrine
Deliberate:
- Utilized when the enemy cannot be defeated with a hasty attack or there is no readily apparent advantage that must be rapidly exploited
- Characterized by leader’s recon
What does a leaders recon seek to do?
- Push next to tx ft to gain eyes on the enemy for two reasons:
1. Confirm his orientation and disposition
2. Confirm or correct your SOM
Rule of thumb is stay within eyes shot of squad
What are forms of Maneuver?
Six Forms of maneuver?
- Frontal
- Flanking
- Envelopment
- Turning Movement
- Infiltration
- Penetration
What are tactical control measures?
Will have to go through different positions throughout our AO
AA- The order is received or briefed, rehearsal are conducted, and logistics are drawn.
ATK POS- Last covered and concealed position before the line of departure
LOD - Is used to coordinate subordinate units actions across an operation.
ASLT - The last covered and concealed position before the objective
OBJ -
What are types of formation?
- Column: provides speed and fire power to the flank, easy to control, vulnerable to the front.
- Wedge: provides all around security, diffcult to control, contact with enemy is likely and probable
- On line: max fire power to the front, only done when enemy position is known.
- Echelon
What are specific control measures dictated by?
- En Sit
- Tx
- Speed
- Visibility
- ## Weather
What is consolidation?
The rapid organization of a hasty defense IOT permit the attacking unit to hold the OBJ
- > SAFE
- > ACE
