T9. Cloud Computing Flashcards

Q

What is Meant by Cloud Computing

A

The organisation’s data is managed and processed by a third party/a computer services company. The data is stored on a global network of servers or data farms on the Internet. To provide services normally provided by a network.

Q

Virtualisation

A

Several virtual servers, each running on a physical server platform. Separates the physical infrastructures to create dedicated resources running multiple OS and applications on the same server

Hosted Instance

A

The virtual server for a particular client with its own allocation of processing and storage.

Q

Clustering

A

Clustering involves a group of virtual servers and other resources acting as a single system to provide cloud computing services using load balancing and parallel processing to meet real-time demand.

Q

Hosted Solution

A

The hardware and software required by an individual client are provided on a remote server and always available for that client to use. No other client can access them.

Q

Data Storage

A

Data is saved on an off -site storage system in a remote database provided by a third party and accessed via the Internet instead of on the users’ storage.

Q

Remotely Hosted Applications

A

Clients can access their business applications as an instance on a virtual desktop which supports multiple concurrent access by the client’s employees. The relevant software and data are stored on a remote server.

Q

Email

A

Web based email services allow users to access their email from the cloud
using any browser or hardware platform. Emails sent and received via the client’s account are stored on the service provider’s server rather than being stored on the user’s own computer.

Q

Backup

A

Clients can store their data on the internet using a storage service provider
rather than storing data locally on a physical hard drive or other device.
Data can be stored to the cloud on a scheduled basis or cloud syncing can
be used to ensure files will automatically be backed up any time changes
are made to them.

Q

Evaluate Cloud Computing

A

An organisation’s data is managed by a third party. The data is stored
on a global network of servers/data farms on the Internet.

Advantages: The organisation requires fewer resources. The third party provides the
hardware and software resources required to store and retrieve the data.

Disadvantage: The third party is responsible for data security. The organisation is reliant on the third party for data security.
With cloud computing, most data access involves data transmission over the Internet which increases the risk of unauthorised access.
