T2 Holy Spirit Works of Mercy Flashcards
What is the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and the Holy Spirit)
It is God’s personal spirit which he shares with us.
It was powerful enough to resurrect Jesus and is God’s presence in the world today.
The Holy Spirit is like flame of knowledge and inspiration to live as Jesus taught us to live.
What is the role of the Holy Spirit ?
The role of the Holy Spirit is to give people wisdom and skills so they can follow the example Jesus gave to us.
The Holy Spirit is a gift from God and inspires us to be more Christ like.
The Holy Spirit transforms our hearts and empowers us so we can do good deeds, love God and each other.
It enables people whom God has chosen to carry out special tasks or spread God’s messages in the world.
How does the Holy Spirit guide the formation of the New Testament?
The Holy Spirit gave inspiration to the authors of the New Testament to write about the impact of Jesus in the world.
The Holy Spirit enabled the writers to provide a complete picture of the message of Jesus. Jesus life was so important and provided a blueprint as to how we should treat others = Love one another as I have loved you.
The Holy Spirit then helped Jesus’ followers to spread this message of Good News to all people regardless of who they were or where they were from.
As a believer how does the Holy Spirit guide you?
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence within you. This presence is the Holy Spirit which acts like a magnifying glass to highlight your gifts and skills. The Holy Spirit guides you to being the best person you can be and to be like Jesus.
How do you demonstrate you are filled with the Holy Spirit?
Provide an example(s) and remember to talk about the example of Jesus, how the Holy Spirit inside you guides you to use your gifts to your full potential!
What is an advocate?
An advocate is the person who speaks up and supports something or someone in a situation. If you act as an advocate for someone you are recommending or supporting them in a situation.
What is Jesus’ New Law?
Jesus New Law is to ‘Love one another as I have loved you’. This can be challenging as it calls us to love others just as they are. There is no favour or judgement - it is pure love and overcomes everything.
What are 3 Works of Mercy (Spiritual or Corporal) that you think are essential in our world? Name them and provide an example for each one (where do you see these works of mercy happening/who are they happening for/why are they important/what is the positive impact they have?)
3 Works of Mercy that I think are important - e.g. clothe the naked, feed the hungry, counsel the doubtful. I see these happening through charity organisations in Brisbane and a couple of these examples are St Vincent de Paul and Eddies Van. SVDP have charity shops where people can go to get items either for free or cheaply if they are struggling, they have food programs, and they have counselling and support services. Eddies Van actively feeds people as their priority service but also talk with the people who go to them. These talks can bring comfort and faith in others for those who are struggling. Both charities have a positive impact and offer important support to the less fortunate in our community.
Mercy Action at AHS is…
Where spirit and action meet. The spirit of Mercy, which is the holy spirit, encourages us to work towards the Common Good. The school has groups which work on projects (both large and small) which focus on improving a situation for others less fortunate.
Mercy Action is generally all about what?
It is all about love and ties directly to Jesus’ New Law. Our Mercy foundation at AHS compels us to act with mercy in all we do and all we say.
Mercy Sisters at AHS did what?
They focussed on the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy in all that they did. The Works of Mercy guided their decisions and they worked, inspired by the Holy Spirit, to improve the lives of all they came to meet.
