What is IPPV?
A
- Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventiliation
- squeezing bag to give breaths (close off first), can manually fill bag before giving breath

List some things you would check if you encountered an anaesthetic emergency?
A
- airway, breathing, MM
- circulation, pulse, CRT
- oxygen (flowmeter)
- breathing circuit is connected
- ventilation (check bag)
- ET tube and cuff
- drugs given -wrong dose or drug
- embolism, intrapleural air
- anaphylaxis

Common anaesthetic emergencies include:
A
airway obstruction
laryngeal spasm
respiratory insufficiency
cardiopulmonary arrest

What should happen if cardiopulmonary arrest occurs?
A
- First deliver a single, strong thump to the left thorax, then carry out the below:
- resus (ABCDE):
- airway establish
- breathing: artificial vent w/ 100% )2, 20-50bpm
- circulation: external cardiac compresions 100per min
- drugs
- catheter
- adrenaline

What is the goal of CPR?
A
TO ACHIEVE ROSC (RETURN OF SPONTANEOUS CIRCULATION)

When not to resuscitate (in cpr emergency)?
A
resuscitation is not attempted for
- animals that have been without spontaneous circulation for more than 15-20 minutes
- terminally ill or terminally injured patients
- patients whose owners have signed a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate).
