T1 nerve root lesion Flashcards
1
Q
T1 nerve root lesion causes?
A
complete claw hand
2
Q
What do the lumbricals do?
A
Extend the (IPJs) fingers when MCPs are flexed
3
Q
What does loss of lumbricals result in?
A
Complete claw hand
4
Q
Claw hand result from
A
Loss of function of lumbricals in the hand
5
Q
Where do the lumbricals arise from and insert?
A
Deep flexor tendons
Insert into the extensor expansion
6
Q
What does T1 lesion cause?
A
Weakness of all lumbricals - extension of MCPs and flexion of IPJs
7
Q
Fibres in the T1 nerve root are taken to supply?
A
Median and ulnar nerves - which is why there is a complete claw hand vs ulnar nerve palsy - partial claw hand because only the ulnar supplied lumbricals are affected
