what is the operating system?
the core software required for the computer to work. it controls the computer and manages the hardware, user infuse and other software running on the computer.
what is system software?
runs the computers hardware and applications. it allows the user to interact with the hardware and application software. it consists of two parts, operating system and utility system software.
what is the user interface
when the OS provides a way for the user to interact with and control the computer. it can be graphical or text based.
what is the graphic user interface?
a type of user interface with features you can see.
what is command line?
a type of user interface where the user types in specific commands
what is memory management?
when the OS manages the transfer of data between memory units.
what is multitasking?
when the OS allows for more than one program to be running at once.
what is peripheral management?
when the OS manages the output and input devices connected to the computer.
what is a driver?
installed top allow a peripheral device to work correctly on a computer. it contains instructions that allow the device to connect and then send data back and forth to the computer.
what is user management?
provides the opportunity for different users to be able to log into the same computer.
what is file management?
provides the user with a logical structure for the storage of data. it provides the user files to store data in and the ability to create folders
what is utility system software?
they help the user manage the computer, including encryption, compression, fragmentation and defragmentation
