systems ! Flashcards
digestive system, respiratory system, circulartory system
purpose of digestive system
to break down food into smaller absorable nutrients
mechanical digestion
the physical movement of eating (chewing, eating)
chemical digestion
when saliva mixes with the food that contains enzymes which breaks down the food
functions of digestive system
esophagus, mucus, small intestine, large intestine, anus
what is the espophagus
paristylest
the long tube that connects your mouth and stomach
what is the mucus
the protective fluid lining around intestines, and inside stomach
purpose of small intestine
break down food and absorbe nutrience from food
- the walls of the small intestine contain vielly that churn and produce intersinal juices (enzymes) * vielly abosrbe nutrience into the blood steam
purpose of large intestine
- absorbs water, nutrients, vitamins and left over waste (feces)
anus
where the feces (poo) leaves the body
gastric juice
made of hydrochloric acid released into the stomach from the glands of the stomach wall
purpose of the Respirtory system
to move fresh air into your body while removing waste gases
functions of respitory sysetm
alveoli, bronchi, bronchus, bronchioles, tranchea, nassel cavity
nasal cavity
inhaled air is warmed, moistened, and filtered
aveoli
- oxygen from inhaled air diffusers into the bloodstream
- carbon dioxide from blood diffues into aveoli
tranchea
allows passage for inspired and expired air to go in and out
bronchus/bronchiles
bronchus carries air into your lungs bronchiles carry air into small sacs of your lungs called aveoli
purpose of circulatory system
transport system that carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells
3 compartments of the heart
- the heart
- blood (red, white blood cells, platelets, veins capileries
- blood vessels
purpose of double system ( the two circuits)
so the two different circuits of blood don’t mix
pulmonary circuit
sends deoxgenated blood to the lungs
systemic
left pump sends new oxygenated blood to the body
what are blood vessels
tubes where blood travel
what are arteries
(blood vessel)
strong thick blood vessels that carry oxygen
what’s a vein
vessel
a blood vessel that carries deoxenganted blood from your heart throughout the whole body
