Examples of Synthetic Biology:

A
  • The minimal genome project: Reduction of a genome to the bare minimum essential genes (i.e. remove any non-essential components)
  • Use of various sequence specific restriction enzymes to cut DNA sequences. Creates sticky ends into which a sequence of your choosing can be added.
  • iGem assembly system, “Biobricks” like LEGO, designed to be assembled using normal cloning techniques “modularity” (Combine different parts to make different systems).
