Q
Synthetic Biology Definition:
A
The design and construction of new biological entities such as enzymes, genetic circuits, and cells or the redesign of existing biological systems.

Q
Examples of Synthetic Biology:
A
- The minimal genome project: Reduction of a genome to the bare minimum essential genes (i.e. remove any non-essential components)
- Use of various sequence specific restriction enzymes to cut DNA sequences. Creates sticky ends into which a sequence of your choosing can be added.
- iGem assembly system, “Biobricks” like LEGO, designed to be assembled using normal cloning techniques “modularity” (Combine different parts to make different systems).
