Fragment sentence
No clauses. Used in informal or casual texts and act as simple sentence. Eg. “Potato cakes $3”
Simple sentence
One clause, no conjunctions. Eg. “I bought 18 donuts”
Compound sentence
Two or more clauses and contains conjunction. Eg. “I bought 25 lizards and Grayem bought yoghurt”.
Complex sentence
Contains a single main clause and one sub clause. Main clause is dominant meaning while sub clause provides additional information. Eg. “I bought 25 lizards and they were pink”.
Compound - Complex sentence
3 or more clauses with 2 main clauses and at least one conjunction. Eg. “I brought 11 socks and Dave brought 23 pigeons because we were both starving”.
Imperative sentence
A command. Eg. “You must go to the toilet”.
Exclamative
Exclamation. Eg. “Get away from me!”.
Interrogative
Questioning. Eg. “Did you want to go to the toilet”
Declarative
Declaring. Eg. “I went to the toilet”.
Causational
‘Because’ and ‘Since’
Conditional
‘If then’ and ‘unless’
Comparative
‘While’ and ‘Whereas’
Ellipses
Removing words from sentence. Eg. “Skyla went to the park and then the beach.”
Nominalisation
A noun that is create from any other word class. Eg. “Participation is encouraged”.
