Subject
the person or thing the sentence is about.
Predicate
what is written or said about the subject.
Phrase
a group of related words.
Clause
a group of related words containing a subject (noun) and a predicate (verb).
independent clause
can stand on its own as a sentence. For example, The boy ran quickly
dependent clause
can’t stand on their own.

Simple sentences
Made up of a single main (or independent) clause. For example, He went by himself.
Compound sentences
Made up of two or more simple sentences which are joined by a conjunction or separated by a comma, semi-colon or colon.
Complex sentences
made up of a main clause with one or more subordinate clauses

- Imperative

Declarative
statements or sentences that state facts. For example, It is very hot in the sun.
Imperative
commands or sentences that give orders or requests. For example, Do not speak to me like that.•Exclamative:
Exclamative
sentences that express a strong feeling or emotion. For example, What a goal!
Interrogative
questions or sentences which require an answer. For example, Where is the nearest hospital?
