Synoptic Problem Flashcards
What is the synoptic problem
Considers of the three synoptic gospels, which gospel wrote first - MATHHEW MARK LUK, and which gospels copied.
Why is the synoptic problem an issue
there is a clear literary connection interlinking the gospels
- all cospels were inspired by the spirit
- they all are accounts of jesus
- they all share a common oral tradition
ONE EXAMPLE OF THE SYNOPTIC SIMILARITY
feeding of the 5000.
both matthew, luke and mark are almost verbatim in their retelling, even with the parenthesis (ichthus) for fish
introducing John the Baptist
matthew and mark share 90% of the same wording when retelling this passage
average crossover percentage of similarity
50% (matthew mark and luke)
Parenthetical Material
each gospels contain these, and more often than not are identical in luke matthew and mark.
Counter argument for the synoptic problem
