Down syndrome
Trisomy 21. Mental retardation, characteristic facial features, Simeon crease in hand.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Fetal malformations, growth deficiencies, craniofacial anomalies, limb defects.
CONN’S SYNDROME
Primary Hyperaldosteronism-muscular weakness, hypertension, hypokalemia, alkalosis.
PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME
Abnormal sensation in breasts, abdominal pain, thirst, headache, pelvic congestion, nervous irritability.
-Ocassionally nausea and vomiting.
GUILLAIN-BARRE SYNDROME
Infectious Polyneuritis of unknown cause.
REYE’S SYNDROME
Loss of consciousness and seizures in kids, after a viral infection treated by aspirin.
STEVENS-JOHNSON SYNDROME
Erythema Multiforme complication.
- Large areas of skin slough, including mouth and anogenital membranes.
- Mucous membranes: stomatitis, urethritis, conjunctivitis.
- Headache, fever, malaise.
CARPAL-TUNNEL SYNDROME
Compression of Median Nerve through the Carpal Tunnel-pain and parasthesia over distribution of Median N.
KORSAKOFF SYNDROME
Loss of short-term memory in chronic alcoholism, caused by degeneration of mamillary bodies.
MALABSORPTION SYNDROME
Impaired absorption of dietary substance- diarrhea, weakness, weight loss, or symptoms from specific deficiencies.
ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME
Gastrin-secreting tumor in pancreas-Severe peptic ulcers, gastric hyperacidity.
NEUROLEPTIC MALIGNANT SYNDROME
High fever, sweating, unstable blood pressure, stupor, muscular rigidity, and autonomic dysfunction.
SEROTONIN SYNDROME
Can occur if you are taking medications, particularly antidepressants “selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)”, that affect the body’s level of serotonin.
- Agitation, Diarrhea. Heavy sweating not due to activity
- Fever
- Mental status changes such as confusion or hypomania
- Muscle spasms (myoclonus)
EXTRAPYRAMIDAL SYNDROME
Dystonia (continuous spasms and muscle contractions), akathesia (motor restlessness), parkinsonism (characteristic symptoms such as rigidity), bradaykinesia (slowness of movement), and tremor and tardive dyskinesia (irregular, jerky movements).
OCCULORESPIRATORY SYNDROME
Red eyes, acute respiratory symptoms (including respiratory distress, throat tightness and/or chest discomfort), and facial oedema. There may or may not be associated systemic symptoms, including high fever.
