What kind of drugs most commonly cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome?
Any that block central dopamine function. Most commonly occurs with atypicals (Olanzapine and Risperidone)
What are the typical symptoms and lab findings of neuroleptic malignant syndrome?
- Hyperthermia
- Rigidity
-Altered mental status - Dysautonomia
Lab Findings – Leukocytosis, Elevated Creatinine
How long do you need symptoms to be diagnosed with major depressive disorder?
2 Weeks, First line is not SSRI, need supportive therapy initially
Who can develop PTSD?

What is the difference between Bipolar I and Bipolar II?
For BP I – All you need is 1 week minimum of mania requiring hospitalization with 3 mania symptoms during that timeframe.
For BP II – You need history of depressive symptoms, and meet criteria for hypomania and major depressive episode concurrently.

Urinalysis first Always in 5+
- Can look at if glucose present, ketones, infection, etc
- Do meds for treatment, only after behavioral therapy

Between 1 day and 1 month
- Delusions
- Disorganized Speech
- Hallucinations
- Disorganized behavior
How are delusional disorder and brief psychotic episode different?
- Can only have delusions, but nothing else and no drugs on board

Worry and anxious on more days than not, over the past 6 months

Conduct Disorder
What is the difference between PCP and Meth use symptoms?
PCP - dissociative anesthetic with hallucinogenic properties with nystagmus, coma, death
Meth - sweating, tachy, dilated pupils, HTN, hyperthermia, etc
If you suspect a female has restless leg syndrome, what would be the initial evaluation?
Iron Studies - along with basic labs
Common causes – Anemia, Uremia, Pregnancy
What is the difference between factitious disorder and malingering?
Both consist of falsifying symptoms of a condition, but factitious does not have any obvious secondary gain to the patient or family.
What three criteria must autisum spectrum disorder include?
- Difficulties with social-reciprication
- Difficulties with non-verbal cues
- Difficulties maintaining social relationships
