What are some possible causes of syncope?

A

Cardiac:

  • arrhythmias
  • structural heart disease
  • aortic stenosis
  • conduction disease
  • TIA
  • congenital heart defect
  • MI
  • postural/orthostatic hypotension
  • anaemia
  • dehydration
  • hypoglycaemia (diabetes mellitus)
  • epilepsy
  • hyperventilation (anxiety/panic attack)
  • electrolyte disorders
  • shock
  • brain tumour

VASOVAGAL = simple faint e.g. standing too long (can be isolated or recurrent)
