1. The action potential travels down the axon. Arriving at the presynaptic terminal.
2. The arrival of the action potential results in neurotransmitters being released into the synapse.
3. Neurotransmitters travel to the connecting neuron via the synapse.
4. Neurotransmitters are absorbed by the postspnaptic neuron or will be reabsorbed during reuptake.
