Synaptic transmission Flashcards
1
Q
Synapse
A
Physical gap between presynaptic and postsynaptic neuron
2
Q
Synaptic vesicles
A
Located in the presynaptic action terminal- containing neurotransmitters
3
Q
Stages of synaptic transmission
A
- The action potential travels down the axon. Arriving at the presynaptic terminal.
- The arrival of the action potential results in neurotransmitters being released into the synapse.
- Neurotransmitters travel to the connecting neuron via the synapse.
- Neurotransmitters are absorbed by the postspnaptic neuron or will be reabsorbed during reuptake.
