Symmetry Flashcards
1
Q
The types of symmetry are:
A
- Asymmetry
- Radial symmetry < Spherical symmetry and pentaradial symmetry
- Biradial symmetry
- BIlateral symmetry
2
Q
What is asymmetry? Examples?
A
If the animal cannot be divided into 2 equal halves by any kind of plane passing through them is asymmetry.
Examples: Poriferans, protozoans
3
Q
What is spherical symmetry? Examples?
A
Spherical symmetry is when an organism divides into infinite halves by any plane.
examples: chlamydomonas in group i.e volvox
3
Q
What is radial symmetry? types?
A
If an organism can be divided into many halves by any one of many plane, it is radial symmetry.
types:
spherical
pentaradial
4
Q
pentaradial symmetry
A
Into equal halves by one of 5 planes.
example: starfish, sea urchin
