Symbols/ Parts Used In Electricity Flashcards
Lamp:
It produces light when a current is passed through it.
Switch:
A switch is a component that can break or make the circuit. An open switch represents a broken circuit and it stops the flow of current through it. A closed switch means the circuit is complete and current can flow through it.
Fixed resistor:
A fixed resistor has a defined electrical resistance which is not adjustable.
Variable resistor:
A variable resistor has an adjustable resistance.
Live wire:
The brown wire in a cable or plug.
Impulse
Electrical signal carried by a nerve cell.
Earth wire:
The green and yellow wire in a cable or plug.
Nerve:
Carries messages around the body.
Neutral wire:
The blue wire in a cable or plug.
Cable grip:
Part of a plug that holds the cable, and stops the wires being pulled out of the pins.
Fuse:
A piece of wire that melts if too much electricity flows through it.
Filament:
Thin piece of wire inside a light bulb that glows when electricity flows through it.
Insulator:
A material that doesn’t let electricity flow through it.
Conductor:
A material that lets electricity flow through it.
