First person point of view
Told by the narrator who is a character in the story and who refers to him or herself as “I”
Second person point of view
This casts the reader as a character in the story narrator uses “you”
Third person point of view
Uses pronouns such as she, he, it, and they
Omniscient
Using third person pronouns, this narrator is aware to the thoughts and actions of all characters in the story
Limited Omniscient
Uses third person pronouns but usually only aware to the actions and thoughts of only one character
Symbols
Objects, places, events, or characters that have meaning and significance beyond their physical forms
Allegory
An entire literary work in which abstract ideas appear in concrete ways
Archetype
A cultural symbol that has become universally understood and recognized
