What is a symbiotic relationship?
A close and long-term biological interaction between two different species
What is mutualism?
A relationship in which both organisms benefit.
What is commensalism?
A relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is unaffected
What is parasitism?
A relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is at a loss
What does obligate symbiosis mean?
One or both of the symbionts entirely depend on each other for survival
What does facultative symbiosis mean?
The symbionts can live independently
What is endosymbiosis?
One symbiont lives within the tissues of the other, either within the cells or extracellularly
What is ectosymbiosis?
The symbiont lives on the body surface of the host
