Symbiosis Flashcards
What is symbiosis?
Symbiosis is the co-evolved intimate relationships between members of two different species.
Types of symbiotic relationship
• parasitism
• mutualism
What does a parasite benefit from?
Benefits in terms of energy or nutrients, whereas it’s host is harmed by the loss of these resources.
What do parasites often have?
Parasites often have a limited metabolism and cannot survive out of contact with a host.
Transmission of parasites…
to new hosts using direct contact, resistant stages and vectors.
What do parasitic lifestyles involve?
Involve intermediate(secondary) hosts to allow them to compare their life cycle.
What is mutualism?
Both mutualistic partner species benefit in an interdependent relationship.
