Why do we learn statistics?
It makes psychology scientific.
Allows us to make sense of and interpret information.
Allows us to organize data.
Allows psychologists to present data in ways that are easier to comprehend.
Visual displays (pie charts/frequency
distributions) allow researchers to get a better overview of data and look for patterns they might otherwise miss.
Describes data: Descriptive statistics provide a way to summarize behaviors and facts.
Make inferences based on data: With inferential statistics, researchers can
generalize the conclusion.
What does this course emphasize?
The application of statistical methods to psychological data and the use of
statistics to understand the results of psychological research studies.
