Fibroepithelial polyp
A
- Very common lesion occurring over a wide age-range
- Clinically: Arises mainly in the buccal mucosa (particularly along the occlusal plane), lips and tongue. Presents as a firm, pink, painless, pedunculated/sessile polypoid swelling varying in size from a very mm to a cm or more in dimension.
- Cause: minor trauma is thought to be an initiating factor due to trauma from teeth/dentures. Occasionally the surface is white due to frictional keratosis.
- Diagnosis: through clinical examination
- Management: By surgical excision. To reduce the likelihood of recurrence, any source of irritation should be corrected.
